Police Chief  - Jeff Wood

Jeff Wood joined the City of Ouray in December 2019, after serving the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland for 25 years; he has been in the command level of policing for the past 17 years. Jeff has his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland with an emphasis on police management and community policing and has attended Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

The role of Police Chief is to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate the enforcement of federal, state and local laws as needed to preserve the peace and protect citizen rights and property. The Police Chief manages police operations including patrol, crime prevention, investigations, traffic, animal control, records, participates in Community Policing programs such as Business Watch, and day-to-day community relations.

The Police Department is charged with enforcing federal, state and local laws. Information regarding City Municipal Court can also be obtained from the police.
